ABOUT
EXPLORING PROJECT MANAGEMENT COMPLEXITIES
Using system dynamics principles, the simulator prepares players to tackle real-world project management challenges. Players explore factors affecting project outcomes, such as hiring, workforce productivity, work quality, testing, rework, scope creep, and schedule pressure. They make critical decisions on project deadlines, hiring, accepting late customer feature suggestions, and receiving immediate feedback on the consequences.
Through interactive play, users gain insights into proactive versus reactive management strategies, workforce dynamics, and the importance of feedback loops in project success.

EVENT FEATURES
Interactive Game-Play Simulation
Participants will work in three-to-four-person teams in this live, online game-playing interactive event. You'll meet new people, make decisions, and play the simulation in randomly assigned teams. You will also take risks and observe the impact of your decisions.
The MIT Sloan Project Management Simulator is based on a realistic system dynamics model of complex projects. This approach enables players to navigate any project's complex web of interdependencies, feedback loops, and inherent nonlinearities. By engaging with the simulator, players can better understand how these elements contribute to project outcomes, offering a realistic training ground for mastering the art of strategic decision-making in dynamic environments.
Learning Objective
Feedback loops are central to dynamic systems, and the simulator provides a unique chance to observe their effect on project outcomes. Players see how decisions in one phase impact later phases, influencing productivity, quality, and timelines. Engaging with these feedback loops allows players to gain a nuanced understanding of the systemic nature of project management, promoting a mindset that anticipates and strategically manages the ripple effects of their actions.
Action Learning
Encouraging exploration and innovation, game-playing simulations are risk-free environments to challenge mental models and day-to-day assumptions.
